About the club:
Our club was founded officially in 1993. In 2003, we have about 40 members, including singles, couples, and families with children. As a small club, we like to have one inbound and one outbound exchange each year.
About our region:
We live in the country of Rheinhessen (Rhine-Hesse), which is situated between Mainz and Worms at the Eastern side of the river Rhine. Look for our map on the Internet (www.ff-rheinhessen.de). The center of our club is Alzey, a nice small city ( www.alzey.de ), surrounded by rolling hills covered with many vineyards. The best time to visit us is between May and October when the weather is warm and the days are long.
About the exchange:
Depending upon the interests of our visitors we can arrange various activities. Beside meeting our members and testing the local wines, we like to show our region by hiking through the vineyards or forested small mountains of the Palatine Forest (Pfaelzer Wald, up to 600 m high), strolling through the capital city of Mainz or having a guided tour through Alzey. The Romanesque cathedrals of Worms, Speyer and Mainz are worth a visit. Many ambassadors from the USA and Japan like to go to famous Heidelberg. Usually we can include a boat tour on the most impressive part of river Rhine from Bingen to Goar passing the steep rock of Lorely. We can try to arrange a visit to big industrial companies like the car plant of Opel (General Motors) at Ruesselsheim or the chemical company of BASF (Badische) in Ludwigshafen.
