About the club
The Friendship Force of Halle Saale started in 1991. The club has approximately 50 members, ages 38 to 93, including families and singles. We like to have one outgoing and two incoming Journeys every year. The maximum number of ambassadors our club can host is 18. Halle on the river Saale is one of Middle Germany oldest cities. Halle is more than 1200 years old. However people came to the river Saale valley about 800 B.C. because there were a lot of salt springs. Halle is the Celtic name of salt. In the 19th century, Halle became an industrial city, but it is a place of art and culture. There are theaters, museums, art galleries, Gothic churches, cathedrals, old castles, a famous old school, a university, and the birthplace of the greatest composer, George Frederick Haendel.
About the region
Halle is near Leipzig, Dresden, and Berlin. About 40 km from our city is a small area with wineries. About 80 km from Halle you can visit the low Harz Mountains, which are over 1000 meters high. Sachsen Anhalt is a centre of the Reformation and the birthplace of Martin Luther is here, along with other notable historical places in Eisleben and Wittenberg.
About the Journey
Generally, our guests arrive by plane. The nearest airport is the Leipzig/Halle. The airport is in a distance of about 20 minutes from our city by train or by car. Halle has a train station as well. We welcome our guests with a banner which reads as follows: “Welcome to TFF Halle” at the airport or at the train station. The visitors’ programme is arranged in accordance with the wishes of our guests, and includes welcome or farewell party, as well a day tour by bus to the city of Dresden, a trip to Leipzig or a visit to the Harz Mountains. We try to comply with any particular wishes. Neighbours, parties and friends are included, and other expositions and homes as well. We always try to organize a reception at the Lord Mayor’s. All these activities are paid out of our budget. If, however, the ambassadors request a special activity, it can be arranged at their expense.
