About the club:
The Friendship Force of Freiburg-Umkirch was founded in 1995. We have 22 members. Generally we can make one outgoing exchange about every two years, but can welcome one incoming exchange a year. There are a number of teachers and students in our group, so we can only have our outgoing exchanges during the school holidays
About the region:
At the level of Kaisertuhl which rises directly above the east bank of the Rhine River, the Black Forest Mountains recede back to the east creating the “Bay of Breisgau.” Right in the midst of this “bay” lies the city of Freiburg, the largest city in the Black Forest (population 200,000). Freiburg was founded during the high Middle Ages about 875 years ago. In its center is a gothic cathedral from the 13th century. The city is the site of the famous AlbertLudwigUniversity (1457). Freiburg is situated in the southwestern corner of Germany, not far from France and Switzerland. This region is the warmest part of Germany and is famous for its vineyards.
About the exchanges:
Sightseeing tours in the medieval town and excursions to the surrounding mountains are part of our program.
